The apartment is on the 3rd floor of an old palazzo and is lovingly furnished, partly with antiques. From the living/dining area, thanks to the two French doors, you can enjoy a wonderful view of the lake, the island of San Giulio, and the mountains. With the windows open, you sit here as if in a loggia and can enjoy the unique view. It's best to come and see for yourself and be enchanted! Directly from the house, you can comfortably do everything on foot. Consequently, during your holiday, you only need your car for excursions in the surrounding area. The lake and boat landing are about 100 meters away. Bars, restaurants, grocery stores, and the central Piazza Motta can be reached on foot in one minute. There are bathing facilities about 400 meters away, and the public beach is about 1.5 km away. Hiking and mountain bike tours can be started directly from the house. Orta San Giulio (approx. 1,200 inhabitants) is located on the eastern shore of Lake Orta (Lago Cusio), one of the most idyllic lakes in Piedmont. The lake is situated in the Verbano-Cusio-Ossola region, only about 15 km away from Lake Maggiore. In the early Iron Age until about 500 BC, the so-called "Golasecca culture" developed here, which is still considered a mediator between the cultures north of the Alps and the Mediterranean culture to this day. In the 4th century AD, the Greek brothers Giulio and Giuliano came to Lake Orta to Christianize the area. Giulio was buried in the basilica named after him on the picturesque island of San Giulio, while Giuliano found his final resting place in the church he built in Gozzano. Over the following centuries, the area was shaped by a tumultuous political history. The most significant town on the lake is certainly Omegna, which attracts visitors with its historic center and a beautiful lakeside promenade. However, the real "highlight" of Cusio is "Orta San Giulio," the "pearl" of Lake Orta. The idyllic town impresses with its picturesque alleys and bourgeois houses with well-preserved Renaissance and Baroque facades. From the central "Piazza Motta," you can take a boat to the nearby Isola San Giulio, whose name, according to legend, should go back to a Greek missionary who is said to have freed the island from snakes and dragons in the 4th century AD. The former palace of the Bishop of Novara located there was converted into a monastery in 1973 and is now inhabited by cloistered nuns of the Benedictine order. From the eastern side of the "Piazza Motta," an alley leads up to the 15th-century church "Santa Maria Assunta," from where you can also reach the world-famous Sacro Monte d’Orta. The Sacro Monte d’Orta is one of the nine Sacred Mountains in Piedmont and Lombardy, which were built towards the end of the 16th century as a bulwark of the Catholic faith against influences from the north. The unique cycle at Lake Orta consists of a total of 20 chapels dedicated to Saint Francis of Assisi, with each sacred building dedicated to an important station in his life. The uniqueness of the complex lies not only in its fantastic viewpoint on the promontory above Orta San Giulio but also in the fact that, unlike all other "Sacri Monti," it is not dedicated to the life of Christ or Mary but to that of a saint.
