Other recreational opportunities
He gîtes of the Ferme des Kerdes, Denneville, are located just three kilometres from coast known as the Côte des Iles, so-named for its proximity to the Channel Islands. Information about day-trips from Portbail to Jersey and Guernesey can be found at the tourism office in Portbail.
Many international guests are also interested in the D-Day landing beaches on the northern coast of La Manche, an easy 45-minute drive from the Ferme des Kerdes.
The historic Mont St Michel is also a popular day-trip with guests of the Ferme des Kerdes and is located about 110 kilometres away.
Golf: the Club de la Côte des Isles is found at St Jean de la Rivière, 11 kilometres from Denneville.
Cycling: Bikes can be hired locally in Portbail, with prices typically starting at around €12/day or €38/week. We are happy to organise your bike-hire in advance of your stay, and more information about walking and bike trails can be found at the Portbail tourism office.
Water sports: The Ecole de Voile at Portbail offers courses in sailing, land sailing and kayaking.

Holiday destination
We are situated in the heart of beautiful, peaceful countryside, about 45 mins from Cherbourg on the west coast of the Cotentin peninsula opposite Jersey. We have two self-catering holiday cottages (Gites) – La boulagerie and La Bergerie. Our farm is in a charming and secluded just outside a typical Norman village with a good baker. The garden is enclosed so children can play in safety. The gitesare close to uncrowded sandy beaches only 3km from our farm, and ideally placed for visiting Mont St Michel, Bayeux, and the Landing Beaches, or maybe house hunting in the Cotentin area. The attractive market towns of La Haye du Puits and Portbail, 8km and 4km away, have a good selection of local shops and restaurants as well as supermarkets. If you are a fan of French street markets there is one available every day within easy driving distance. There are many fetes, fairs and festivals during the year (see our events page), or you might just want to enjoy the tranquillity & beauty of the surrounding countryside.

Host informationBoth children of French fathers, Stephan was born and raised near Nuremberg, Germany and Sophie in Melbourne, Australia. Having met and fallen in love over pichets of wine in the brasseries of Paris, we married in Denneville, France, in June 2011. In October 2012, we moved permanently to Normandy to take over the management of the gîtes of Ferme des Kerdes and benefit from a country lifestyle, family and friends living in the area.
We look forward to introducing you to our little patch of Normandy!
