The town of Nin is situated in a shallow lagoon, just 15 km from Zadar. Nin was an important urban center during the Liburnian and Roman times, when the community was known by the significant name Aenona. Nin is the oldest Croatian royal city and was an important port for centuries. Nin's medicinal mud (peloid) has been used for medical purposes from Roman times to the present day.

Nin is connected with Zagreb and other Croatian cities via the A1 motorway, which can easily be linked to the European road network.
