Hohwacht is a atmospheric place and still has the character and charm of a fishing village, with wide sandy beaches, wooded cliffs, traditional thatched roof houses and beautiful restaurants - nordic flair without high-rise buildings.
In Alt-Hohwacht, on the steep coast, on the extensive Hohwacht beach and on the market square you will find various restaurants, cafés, ice cream parlors and snack bars/bistros/bars - and of course many op portunities for a Baltic Sea fish sandwich. There is also a fish smokehouse in Alt-Hohwacht, a mini golf course, playground, bike rental (also e-bikes) and sailing center (e.g., courses, driver's licenses, boat rentals, kiting, surfing, sailing, SUP).
Hohwacht offers 2 viewing platforms, one on the Hohes Ufer cliffs and the flounder on the extensive bathing beach. You can also take a look at Alt-Hohwacht from the water from the pier.
For a rich breakfast in the apartment or on the terrace, there are 2 bakeries in Hohwacht (recommended: Strandknacker rolls) and an Edeka supermarket for your catering.
A short walk on the beach or an extensive hike along the coast - you can walk for miles: on the beach, along the cliffs, or behind the dunes. Beautiful destinations are the nearby fishing port of Lippe and its fish restaurant, as well as the lighthouse in Behrensdorf and the restaurant on the campsite. For nature and animal lovers, it is worth taking the path through the nature reserve on the inland lake with a bird-watching platform to the Sehlendorf beach with cafés and restaurants.
About 25 km away are the towns of Plön (surrounded by the Plön Lakes), Malente, and Eutin with its pretty market square and castle.
A trip to the cities of Lübeck with its old town and Holstentor, which is worth seeing, as well as Kiel and Laboe (beach promenade, harbor, submarine museum) is also worthwhile.
Other excursion destinations include the Hansa Park amusement park, thermal bath and sauna Ostseetherme in Scharbeutz/Timmendorf (access to the sea), Niendorf (port, beach promenade, restaurants), the island of Fehmarn with the town of Burg, Puttgarden, the Maritime and Railway Museum, as well as Grömitz (beach promenade, pier, pubs), and Heiligenhafen (pier, beaches, restaurants, seaport, cliffs).
