Maritime flair and atmosphere, fine Baltic Sea beaches, clean air, and a fascinating scenery, vast stretches of unspoiled nature can be found when crossing the Schlei-Bridge toward the small town of Kappeln. From here you have a good view of Europe's only Heringszaun, a sort of fish catching device from olden times.
Discover the museum harbor or enjoy the panoramic view from the observation deck at the Mühle Amanda (Mill). In the mill you will find the tourist information
office. A traditional fish market is open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the last Sunday of every month from March to October.
Would you like to get to know the region? Consider taking the Angelner Dampfeisenbahn (Steam engine train) or taking a boat trip across the Schlei to the town of Arnis or Maasholm.
Visit the Archeaological Border complex of Hedeby and the Danevirke. It is on the Unesco World Heritage List because of its rich and well preserved archaeological material and helps interpret developments in Europe during the Viking age. The Viking museum Haithabu is especially fun for children and only about 50 km from our wonderful Residenz Bollwark.
