Those who wish to escape from it all will enjoy one of the romantic winter walking trails around Obertraun. Beautiful scenery as far as the eye can see in a magical winter idyll. Often the only sounds you will hear are your footsteps on the crisp snow beneath you.

Away from the traffic, surrounded by large gardens, on the edge of the Koppenwinkel nature reserve, lies the 'Landhaus Osborne'.
Obertraun is located in a world heritage region, nestled between the mountains of the Dachstein, on the eastern shore of Lake Hallstatt. Obertraun is a small village and offers peace and tranqility, natural beach pool, boat hire, surfing and paddling school, white-water paddling, fishing, mini-golf, bowling, tennis, square concerts, local history and customs evenings, etc.
In summer, take the cable car to the Dachstein Krippenstein (2,100m) and visit the cave worlds or hike to the 5 fingers. Or relax on the beach where you can swim, rent a kayak or SUP or just relax in the sun. At the end of the day, enjoy a sundowner at the Obertraun Seecafe.
The World Heritage Site Hallstatt with the oldest salt mine in the world, the Sky Walk and the beautiful old town is only 6 km away. Close enough for a visit, but far enough away from the hustle and bustle of Hallstatt.
In winter, the Dachsten Krippenstein is the perfect base for exploring this area of outstanding natural beauty characterised by the Dachstein mountain range. The Krippenstein Freeride Arena (2100 metres) is a magnet for those who enjoy winter sports in unspoilt natural surroundings and is accessible via the recently modernised Dachsteinbahn cable car system.
The region provides a real adventure for downhill and cross country skiers and snowboarders of all abilities. For those who prefer more gentle snow shoe hiking, Obertraun has plenty to offer.
There are 11 km of prepared ski piste from the summit down to the valley, otherwise you can try out some off-piste skiing. Our younger guests will have hours of fun at the recently established "Krippi-Park".
Down in the valley there is a wonderful 14 km long cross- country ski trail which passes through the "Koppenwinkel", a Nature Preservation Area renowned for its beauty. Skating is now possible on the trail too, thanks to modern technology.
By car you can quickly reach the ski areas of Dachstein West (140 km of prepared pistes - 15 minutes from Obertraun), Loser (29 km of prepared pistes - 20 minutes from Obertraun), Postalm Arena (20 km of prepared pistes - 40 minutes from Obertraun) - and many more...

We both had good careers in IT, but decided there was more to life, so moved to Austria where we can ski winter, hike, bike and swim in Spring, Summer and Autumn. We have never looked back and enjoy welcoming people from around the world to our home.
