With the free ferry (2 minutes), you're already in the center of Alkmaar (600 m). Every Friday until September 30th, the cheese market takes place there. Feel like shopping and strolling around? In the small, compact, and accessible city center, you'll find all the big chains as well as many smaller boutiques. Here you'll discover excellent restaurants, numerous cozy terraces, and museums. Bergen aan Zee (beach) is 10 km away.
