The provincial capital Trapani is an ancient port city with a significant ferry harbor and a quite picturesque old town. From here, you can quickly reach the Aegadian Islands with their crystal-clear and still fish-rich seas and largely untouched nature. The island of Pantelleria is also not far away.
Other sights worth seeing towards Marsala include the salt pans with their atmospheric windmills, one of which has been excellently restored as a museum mill.
The lagoon island of Mozia, an early colony of the Carthaginians, is a large archaeological park with a museum.
Further south lies Marsala, a lively town with colorful markets and many shops, and a beautiful old town. The special attraction of Marsala is the many wine producers, particularly those that produce the famous Marsala wines. South of Marsala, there are magnificent, fine sandy and long beaches that are ideal for beach walkers and families alike.
Holiday destination
This old estate enjoys an excellent starting position in western Sicily and a panoramic hillside location; an area dominated by vineyards: shops and good country inns in and around Fulgatore and Napola (2 km), a winery with delicious local wine in the village, highway access 2.5 km (Palermo-Trapani), Erice 20 km, Val D'Erice 12 km, Segesta with its Greek temple and ancient city 12 km, Trapani (ferry port for the Aegadian Islands) and the nature reserve of the salt pans 10-15 km, the sandy beaches at Marausa 15 km, but also the Phoenician lagoon city of Mozia, Marsala, and Selinunte are less than an hour's drive away! The nearby coast north of Trapani was awarded the highest accolade of 5 Sails by Lega Ambiente in 2019.
Erice, due to its extraordinary location - as if it wants to touch the sky - has been a sanctuary of the Elymians and Phoenicians since ancient times, around which an impregnable city has formed. Today, it presents itself as an "intact medieval mountain town, where there are hardly any disturbing additions from later centuries, located 750 m high on the isolated rock of Monte S. Venere, directly below the plain of Trapani with the salt pans, endless views of the sea with the Aegadian Islands, over the flat vineyard landscape of Marsala with lagoons and islets, ... one of the most magnificent viewpoints.
Today's Erice is perhaps the most charming town in Sicily, with narrow streets where time seems to have stood still between the clean stone walls." Certainly, in the summer heat, it is a pleasant place to stay, being only 12-15 km away from the beaches of Val d'Erice and Lido Bonagia.
