For centuries, the city walls have embraced and preserved the rich history of Novigrad, its culture and valuable tradition. Namely, the first written mention of the city dates back to 599. Novigrad was founded on the basis of several villages that are known to have existed on the same land in the past - Naples in the 7th century, then Civitas Nova in the 9th century, and ancient Emona (Aemonia) in the 12th century. All this speaks of the fact that Novigrad's origin is filled with a rich and very turbulent past.
